Science of Compassion

In a recent article in the Huffington Post, James Doty asks:

“Why, in a country that consumes 25% of the world’s resources (the U.S.), is there an epidemic of loneliness, depression, and anxiety? Why do so many in the West who have all of their basic needs met still feel impoverished?

“While some politicians might answer, ‘It’s the economy, stupid,’ based on scientific evidence, the better answer is, ‘It’s the lack of compassion, stupid.’”

As we work to make compassion a guiding principle in our community, it’s worthwhile to review the research that Doty highlights in his article. You can read the entire article at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/james-r-doty-md/science-of-compassion_b_1578284.html

Justice is compassion raised to an institutional level.

About compassionatews

Think of a giant umbrella. Under that umbrella are all of the programs and acts of compassion that we see – and don’t see – around us in Winston-Salem.
